Project “ROSHNI”
In the digital era, while the internet and modern technologies have enhanced speed, convenience, and access, the threat of cybercrime continues to grow. The younger generation, being the most active users of digital platforms, is particularly vulnerable to cyber risks. In this context, cyber security has become a critical contemporary necessity.
To address this emerging challenge, the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA) launched a special cyber security awareness initiative titled “Project ROSHNI.” The campaign aims to raise awareness about cyber threats, promote safe digital practices, and encourage the protection of digital identity and reputation.
Roles and Responsibilities :
Considering the evolving level of digital literacy in Bihar, the initiative holds special significance. Under this campaign, BSDMA conducted cyber security awareness programmes in 20 schools of Patna district, with a special focus on schoolgirls.
The programme highlighted the growing risks of cybercrime, including phishing, malware attacks, online fraud, banking fraud, OTP scams, identity theft, and cyberbullying. Participants were sensitized about secure online behaviour, such as using strong passwords, avoiding suspicious links, safeguarding personal information, and taking prompt action in case of cyber incidents.
The campaign also emphasized the integration of cyber security with disaster management, recognizing cyber threats as a form of modern disaster that requires early preparedness and preventive measures.
Notably, this initiative stands out as a unique effort, possibly the first of its kind in the country, to conduct a dedicated cyber security awareness programme for schoolgirls in campaign mode. BSDMA plans to expand this initiative across the state.
Conclusion
This campaign undertaken by BSDMA was not limited to providing information alone; it successfully instilled confidence and vigilance among students regarding cyber security. The initiative has the potential to serve as a model campaign for the entire country, playing an inspiring role in ensuring a safe and secure digital life in the modern era.
