Fire safety
Loss or damage due to fire is a common thing, generally due to ignorance of people the risk of fire increases significantly in slums, shops, restaurants, hotels and crowded markets etc. Fire incidents have also been reported in hospitals. BSDMA is working simultaneously on multiple fronts to ensure fire safety. In collaboration with the Fire Services Department, a unique and highly ambitious campaign is being carried out to make hospitals across the state fire-safe. As a result of this initiative, both private and government hospitals in the state are now far better prepared than before to deal with fire emergencies.

Hospital fire safety:
From fire fighting to fire engineering  The authority has developed a 16-point fire proneness index and three layered fire protection provisions indigenously. It has resulted into considerable reduction in fire mishaps in hospitals of the state. The authority has already guided the auditing of 24,000 hospitals of the state. The sole endeavor is to move from fire fighting to Fire Engineering.

Slums Fire safety :

When a fire becomes severe and uncontrollable, emergency evacuation of both citizens and their belongings becomes essential. Failure to do so can result in widespread loss of life and property. Buildings often lack alternative exits, making it difficult to escape a fire. Building design plays a significant role in most fire disasters.  The Bihar Fire Service team is always ready to tackle any major fire in the state and works under the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).  After reviewing the above points, a public awareness programme for fire safety and prevention in highly vulnerable urban settlements/slums located in the area of Patna Municipal Corporation has been launched as a pilot project in the year 2024. Due to which till now more than 10,000 people living in these urban settlements have got the benefit. For the successful implementation of this programme, a district level coordination committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of ADM (Disaster Management), Patna. The committee comprises the SP (Law and Order) of Bihar Police, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Patna Municipal Corporation, District Fire Officer, representatives of various oil companie, BSPHCL and BSDMA.
